1.6 round 1 - rodtoppen

reminder: household introductions

welcome to the rodtoppen farm!

i hope you don't mind looking at pictures of lots of smelly sims with green waft clouds hovering about them, because thats what the majority of this round consists of.

there will of course also be adorable children, though.

mischievous, absolutely!

but adorable too.

leif spends much of his days (and evenings) working the farm.

the rodtoppens have been working this land for generations, and, fortunately for leif, he gets quite the thrill from it.

oh hi, leif!

you look dashing in this light.

okay, so this may not be the wealthiest household in nordhavn, but you do actually have a somewhat comfy (and purpose built) bed inside, espen!

mornings always start so early on the farm...

got to make the most of the spring and summer seasons, after all!

buzzzzzzzzzzzz.

gisli: boo!

una: waaaah!

and so the invasion of the stinky green clouds begins.

gisli, the eldest son of leif and alsa, has stopped by the farm.

you may remember from the nordhavn introductory post that gisli has taken up an apprenticeship with nordhavn's seer.

much to his displeasure.

leif: my boy! i'm so glad you stopped by. tell me, how is your training with the seer going?

gisli: its the worst.

leif: oh... well i'm sure its not quite that bad, eh! things have been super busy here... maybe it was a mistake to let your mother send you to live with the seer after all, aha!

gisli: wow. is that supposed to make me feel... better?

something tells me gisli is harboring a tiny bit of resentment towards his parents for sending him off to live with the town's very own cranky old crazy man.

the twins are honestly so cute.

now if only they weren't such a freakin' handful...

i wasn't exaggerating when i said leif works the farm all day long. theres always so much to do!

and leif wasn't joking when he said it had been a mistake to allow alsa to send gisli off to the seer like they did.

rodtoppens were meant to work on the farm! and gisli had finally gotten to an age where he would have actually been of real use to the family business... sigh.

still, the spring garden is coming along pretty nicely, at least!

alf: so, err, i'm really sorry about proposing to you at the meadhall that one time.

alsa: oh... yeah. umm, thanks. for the apology, i mean. not the proposal.

leif: tom...aaaah.....to. c'mon, una... you can say it! tommmm....aaaaaaaaah....tooo.

una: ...eh?

alsa: so i bumped into that guy at the market again today. the one who asked for my h-

leif: yeah, i know the one. i mean, you're not going to be able to avoid him forever. nordhavn is a small town, after all. plus, he gave you more of a romantic gesture than i was ever able to...

alsa: well, to be fair to you, that was because our parents had already begun arranging our marriage from the day i turned 14.

leif: thats true enough. i think 14 is an understatement, though. i'm pretty sure we were betrothed before either of us were even conceived.

alsa: and anyway... you've shown me plenty of romantic gestures since then...

leif: was that romantic enough for you?

alsa: oh yes... plenty so...

espen getting his weekly bath.

i wish i was joking.

leif, you literally cannot get sick right now.

thing are hard enough in this household as it is!

una: dada...?

espen: dada dead...

alsa: darling, we can't go on like this. staying on top of things with both the farm and the kids... we... we need help.

leif: i know... i'm just... too tired to even think about it right now.

alsa: leave it with me.

inserts a dramatic and serious shot of alsa thinking very hard about things

some days later...

munin: eww! what is that terrible smell??

rosell: i think i'm going to pass out from the stench!

^ the source of the smell ^

munin: so do we have a deal, then? you're taking her off my hands, right?

leif: uhh. i mean, doesn't a deal require something to be given on both sides? how much will her services cost? we don't have much to offer... like, at all...

munin: urgh, you non-city folk. i thought i'd made myself clear enough.

leif: excuse me?

munin: so long as you take her off my hands, i'll expect nothing back. she’s good for nothing. not pretty enough for a good husband. terrible at every craft she's tried her hand at. no, she's brought me nout but bad luck for the last 15 years. i’m off to tartosa to start a new life. reckon i'm young enough yet to take a new wife. maybe even try again with a new set of offspring. but hey, whose to say you won't find some use of her on this stinkin' farm of yours. goodbye, and don't ever try to find me!

espen: why your papa angwy?

rosell: he's not my papa anymore.

and so rosell olsman joins the rodtoppen household (and nordhavn!).

the poor girl has had a rough start to life. and with a father like munin, its not difficult to see why.

the rodtoppens can't offer her much for her services, but i'd wager she'd have taken anything just to be free from that "parent" of her's once and for all.

wait, what's this? a clean child!?

things must be on the up!

chooses to totally ignore the smelly diaper wafting away in the background there

and look! one of the twins is even finally potty trained!

its going to take some time to get the farm in a better condition, however.

oh...

okay, so i guess this is happening.

another baby! great!!!

alsa: oh, shh. i'm pretty sure you're not as mad about this as i am.

umm, since when are we breaking the fourth wall, alsa?

rosell got the morning off to go and explore a bit of nordhavn.

you'd think she's never been on a swing before.

which, sadly, is probably true.

her father never allowed her out on her own like this. or rather, he never allowed her to do much of anything.

rosell: its nice to meet you, sir.

erik: sir? oh no, i'm just erik.

leif: so rosell, how are you settling into life on our farm? you've been such a help to us so far, really... especially with this new baby on the way now, too.

rosell: oh... its been great, honestly. and... thank you. i've never been told i'm doing a good job before.

leif: you know what? if we run fast enough, we might just be able to catch your father's ship before it departs drekigatt. that way i can give him one big thud over the head before we say a final good riddance!

i caved and gave alsa a handheld device embroidery hoop.

i know she'll be on it all the time now, but still, its a less risky way to increase her fun bar than woohooing, at least.

oh πŸ˜₯

my bad.

i wish there had been a warning first or something...

wow. thats really some ferocious toilet cleaning you're doing there, rosell.

but at least she gets a nice bubbly bath afterwards to reward herself!

spring ends with a first batch of crops being ready for harvest! hurrah!

leif looks very happy with himself.

well done, man! things were looking a bit choppy at one point there.

annnnnd so closes this first round at the rodtoppen farm.

my gosh, that was stressful. i'd like to say things will get easier for them next time around, but no... there's this new baby coming now, lol.

next: singasven household

Welp, pretty sure Rosell is better off at the Rodtoppen farm than with a father like that. >:( Farms are so pretty but also so chaotic to play! I'm impressed there wasn't more chaos. πŸ˜‚οΈ Put those kids to work pulling weeds once they age up, Leif!

Also, is that duck (or goose???) from the Sun & Moon set? For some reason I've never used the ducks or geese, but it's so cute, now I gotta. :D
