1.7 round 1 - singasven

reminder: household introductions
there is no place fierzo likes better than being out on the water.
his boat is his sanctuary. the splash of the waves his therapy.
he had been raised in the sunbathed seas of the far-south, but it was the moodier, murkier water of the north that he had long preferred.
it was alive in every sense of the word, and had a personality to match.
spending his days out here was the greatest privilege.

fierzo: so has your mother spoken to you yet? about the baby, i mean.

tyrella: oh... no, she hasn't. its fine, honestly. i didn't expect her to be happy about it. we are the singasvens, after all.

fierzo: we are a proud household, yes, but we are not cold-hearted. she will come around, my sweet flower.
tyrella: heh. thats true enough for you, father. but mother... i fear me having this child out of wedlock may ki-

fierzo: thats quite enough... thank you. but i understand your point. don't worry, i'll talk to her about things... everything will be fine, i promise.

tyrella wasn't sure if she shared her father's optimism, but it wouldn't do to dwell on it.
she had more important matters at hand. like taking care of herself as this pregnancy progressed. it had been making her increasingly discomforted of late.
and then when the baby actually arrived... oh, well she still had so much left to do in order to prepare for that part.

sylvi: how was today's catch? the market are as keen as ever for our next shipment.
fierzo: 'twas good, yes. very good. they can come by to collect it tomorrow.
sylvi: well, okay then... and why does it feel like you have something else to say?

fierzo: why would you say that...? okay, well actually, my dear, i was hoping to talk to you about tyrella. perhaps, and this is just a suggestion, of course, it would be a kindness to her to lay off a touch on the unexpected nature of her pregnancy.

sylvi: lay off? she's having a baby with the man who just tossed her aside like a used rag! how can i be anything but horrified at the notion? why aren't you?

fierzo: because she's our daughter. and she needs us to be there for her.
sylvi: mumbles unintelligibly... i s'pose... maybe.

magnus bumped into kai at the market one evening. he hadn't seen her since ivarr's infamous dinner party.
magnus: kai! hi. i've actually been meaning to talk to you for a while now. i really wanted to... err, apologise, for being a bit hot-headed when i found out you and ivarr were a thing now.

kai: oh. well, first of all, we're definitely not a thing. not in that sense of the word, anyway. and secondly, its totally fine, dude! i get it. if i'd known the guy had so many admirers, perhaps i would have just stayed far away from this whole thing...

magnus: admirer?! oh no, you're mistaken... it's my sister. what i mean is, it was for my sister... i was thinking of her... her being pregnant, and all. my sister, yeah.

kai: woah! okay, man. if you say so. a little tip though, if i may. you really ought to work on that whole pining look you've got going on whenever you're within ten feet of the guy.

magnus: ....

kai: ha, so serious! don't get me wrong, its totally fine! like i said, the two of us are totally not a thing or anything. not even close. so definitely go for it, if you like. don't let me get in the way.

magnus' head ached by the time he got home that evening.
he wasn't really sure how to take his earlier conversation with kai.
pining looks? was his affection for ivarr really that obvious?
did ivarr know?
still, this didn't change anything, anyway. the guy was still his sister's ex-husband, after all... and the soon-to-be father of her child... the father of his niece or nephew.

there are certainly worse working environments.

about time, magnus. if you're to take over your father's fishing business one day, you're really going to need to start racking up these skill badges!

sorry, i just can't get enough of this view.

sylvi: so am i really the only one here who thinks the pair of you ought to just knock heads and raise this child together? are you absolutely sure ivarr won’t remarry you? any decent man in his position would, i'm sure. maybe we can ask the jarl to talk some sense into him...

tyrella: umm yeah, pretty sure thats not going to happen, mum. can we please stop talking about this now?

sylvi: oh, fine. i'm the crazy one, i guess. you'll at least come with me to the temple tomorrow? it would at least make me feel better to know we have the watcher's blessing in this matter.

tyrella: umm.... you know i'm not really... urr, dad, what do you think?

fierzo: if i'm honest, that actually sounds like it could be quite a nice thing for you two to do together.
pretty sure that wasn't the answer tyrella wanted, fierzo, but okay.

poor magnus, enduring yet another dinner conversation about his sister and the baby she's having with the man he's desperately into.

the next day...
tyrella's bump is only just about showing, but she's got the pregnancy waddle down already.

tyrella: err, what exactly are we doing now?
sylvi: the water from the watcher's spring is like no other. you'll feel all those aches and pains just starting to fade away, i assure you of that.

slurrrrrrrrrrp

tyrella: okay wait... this stuff is actually amazing. why didn't you bring me here sooner?
sylvi: i've been trying to bring you to the watcher's temple for the last three years now... but whatever.

tyrella: so what are we supposed to do here, exactly?

sylvi: oh for goodness sake, tyrella. just pray! pray for a good birthing, pray for a healthy child... pray, and maybe the watcher will listen.

tyrella: watcher... lord... sorry, i don't know how to refer to you, actually. please... if you're really out there... look after me and my child... please.

tyrella: master yoren. i'd no idea you were a watcher convert. especially being the jarl's husband, and all.
yoren: oh yes, we are a small but growing conclave here in nordhavn. i didn't know you were practising now. or is it that you are merely curious?

tyrella: oh no... i'm not... well, to be honest, i don't know anymore. its comforting, i suppose, to think someone is up there looking out for us.

yoren: indeed. and with the dragons and their riders gone for so long now, it is hard to see how they could also hold a similar power any longer, right? anyway, i've been meaning to ask ever since i found out, how are things going with your pregnancy?
tyrella: oh, its going okay, i think. i suppose you'll be the one who will help me through the birthing process, as the town's doctor?

yoren: me?! oh no, dear lord, no! i don't get involved in such things. i am... more of a surgeon, than a midwife. i suppose your mother will have more experience in such things.
tyrella: oh.... i see. how comforting.

sylvi: i bet you suddenly quite like the idea of praying to the watcher now... huh?

eydis and norf, one of the watcher faithful, were having it out with one another outside the temple.
honestly, it checks out.
both are as grumpy and mean as the other.

fierzo: how did your day go with tyrella, my love?
sylvi: surprisingly well, i think. trust me, i'm more surprised about it than you.

these two are so different, yet somehow they work so well together.
cuties.

magnus is paying another trip to the training ground, despite having no interest in said training.
i wonder why.

ivarr: magnus! sorry, i don't mean to sound so surprised every time you turn up here.

magnus: oh no, don't worry about it. i just, urr, came because... would you help me out with a bit of training, perhaps?

ivarr: thats great work, magnus! just keep your posture straight, and never take your eyes off your opponent!
i imagine its pretty hard for magnus to do that last part when you're standing so close by, ivarr...

ah, the age old game of kicky bag!
nothing like an evening of drinking mead and kicking something really smelly and dirty about to bond with your fellow soldiers.
not that alf or magnus are even soldiers, lol.

magnus: today was really fun, ivarr.... thanks.

excuse me?!
and yes, those are minus relationship points in the background...

but i thought you didn't care, kai?
"definitely go for it!" were your exact words, i think, but maybe i'm being pedantic.

i don't think either magnus or ivarr even spotted kai storm off the lot.

this was very unexpected, honestly.
i thought this was going to be much more of a slow-burner.
but then again, we've already learnt ivarr is a mess right now. and i think magnus is too much of a hopeless romantic to have any patience with such things.

all good, magnus?

tyrella: oi, move over, brother. heavily pregnant lady, incoming.

tyrella: everything okay? you seem a bit spaced out. did you accidentally slap yourself over the head with a fish again? that concussion lasted days, last time.

magnus: no, no fish. i'm fine. totally fine. all fine. really fine.

tyrella: maybe add three more "fine"s into that sentence, and then i might actually believe you. are you sure there's nothing you want to tell your big sister about? we used to tell each other everything.

magnus: its.. no big deal, honestly. maybe another time, sis.
i mean, how are you supposed to tell your sister that you just kissed the guy whose baby she's having?

sylvi: and what exactly are you doing here?! you've been avoiding my husband and i for months, and now you have the nerve to just suddenly turn up at our house uninvited?

ivarr: hey, i was invited! tyrella started having contractions this morning. i rushed over as soon as i could!

sylvi: contractions... oh.... i've been out at the market all morning. i didn't know.

tyrella: no need to look so worried, mum. they don't hurt just yet. i've heard they can go on for days before anything actually happens.

ivarr: so your mother really doesn't like me, huh? i can't blame her, i guess.

tyrella: no, but it might help if you actually came around here more often. you can't hide from her and dad forever. especially not once these babies arrive... and that might not be very long now at all... owww...

ivarr: i thought you said they weren't hurting yet...
tyrella: yeah, like i'm really going to send my mother into full panic mode like that.

fierzo is meanwhile entertaining everyone with his damn lute... which i will absolutely be deleting (or moving outside, at the very least), as soon as this baby arrives.

and magnus is keeping himself well away from any room containing both ivarr and tyrella at once.

its cominggggggggggggggg!

tyrella: oh an audience!! great, just what i needed!

tyrella: gosh... i never want to have to do that again...
i have some bad news for you, tyrella...

yup...

but my goodness, they are so adorable.
meet knut (pronounced ka-noot) and his twin sister, agertha.

tyrella wasted no time jumping straight into bed. she's exhausted.
and how can you blame her?

this feels kind of awkward.

ivarr: everything okay, magnus? you seem pretty quiet.

magnus: oh, absolutely fine! sooo fine. really fine. yep. fine.

aww, sylvi is finally excited about the idea of being a grandmother!
yay.
and fierzo seems to find that particular quality attractive.

ivarr: two of you.... wow.

ivarr: i may not be around all the time, little one, but i'm going to try my very hardest to be the best father i can to you and your sister.

norf: master singasven! i heard the baby has arrived.
fierzo: babies. plural.
norf: oh, wonderful! twins are a special blessing from the almighty watcher! he is doubly pleased with your household!
me, the watcher: is he? is he really?

sylvi: so magnus, is it really true you've taken up swordplay at the training ground? i could hardly believe it when ivarr told me a few days ago.

magnus: umm, well yeah. ivarr is teaching me. its been... good.

ivarr, you might want to stop looking at magnus like you're a lovestruck schoolboy.

tyrella: hmm....

tyrella and magnus went out to the tavern one evening, so the grandparents were on the babysitting roster.

at least fierzo is taking his duties seriously.

tyrella is just enjoying being out of the house again.
pregnancy was no laughing matter, but it felt like a cakewalk compared to actually having real-life twins now.

ooft.
for a second there, i worried that this was magnus and kai...
but nope. just that crazy townie lady who fights everyone, and one of the ever-peaceful watcher faithfuls.

and so i'll leave this round here, with things still left unsaid between brother and sister...
as i said, i did not expect this love triangle (or i guess, quadrangle??) to start so soon! but the game had other ideas, i guess.

Date: 2026-04-14 10:39 pm (UTC)They're really sweet together! Also, I'm intrigued at the idea of Fierzo and the Hafsaers meeting, since fishermen typically have so many mermaid tales! And omg yes, the Mess might form a black hole from the density of it all. 😂
